Type(V1.3) ARP User's Manual Type(V1.3)
NAME
Type - Type a file, possibly with line numbers or in hex.
SYNOPSIS
Type File/... TO/k OPT/k [HNBF] HEX/s NUMBER/s
DESCRIPTION
Type displays a file on the current window, or, if a TO
argument is supplied, to a file. With the ARP version of
Type, you can type many files with one TYPE command, and use
wildcards as well. Note that due to this enhancement of
Type it is possible to dispense with Join, since Type can do
Join's job as well as its own.
If you use Type without a filename, it will read from its
standard input. This allows you to use Type in a pipeline,
or to send keyboard input to a device (such as a printer) or
a file. To terminate an interactive session with Type, use
C-\ (Control \)
OPTIONS
HEX or OPT H
This displays the file(s) in hexadecimal.
NUMBER or OPT N
This displays the file(s) with line numbers.
OPT B
This option (new with this ARP release) will display a
banner before each file, indicating the name of the
file being typed. This is very useful with wildcards.
OPT F
This option (new with this ARP release) will print a
formfeed at the end of each file displayed. This will
cause the screen to be cleared on the terminal, or the
current page to be ejected from the printer.
TO file
The TO option lets you select a destination file
instead of typing to the console. Note that with the
ARP TYPE, you must explicitly specify the TO keyword,
unlike the Commodore TYPE.
EXAMPLE
Type Type OPT H ; Type a binary file in hex.
